1) Summertown ©1997 John Hasnip/Mike Hall
John - Back in the stone age before the Internet and Cell phones, this song was plucked from the sky!
I wrote the tune without lyrics and passed it on to my friend, Mike Hall.
Fast Forward 25 years and it finally gets a recording!
Some serious Piano work thanks to our good friend Chris!
The song evokes memories of love, lust, fish & chips, and missed opportunities at the seaside!
It raises the eternal question, " Did they get a Rossi's in the end? "
Lyrics
1) Dark clouds rushing at the bay
Summertown on a winter's day
At the end of the world
Stands a girl
In the wind and spray
As the shell of a town
Stares in the background
She knows there's no escape
Wave after wave
Summertown when the rain comes down
2) Got washed up on this shore
Stranded now and forever more
Drinking alone
Mind like a stone
Drags you down in the blue
In this old fading place
Your lost faded face
The emptiness overwhelms you
Wave after wave
Summertown when the rain comes down
You're in Summertown when the rain comes down
3) You pass her by in the street
with your Eyes fixed upon your feet
Thoughts push your head down
and in Summertown
the chance has blown away
Dark clouds gather round
as you lament the sounds
that once again your voice failed to make
Wave after Wave
Summertown when the rain comes down
You're in Summertown when the rain comes down
